In 2003 I was asked develop promotional materials for a charity event for Nazareth House—a shelter for women (many of whom suffered from abuse). The event: a boxing event. Yes, a boxing event!

We spun the negative connotations around and honoured the struggle the women of Nazareth House overcome. The event was appropriately named Fight For Independence.

Eight years later, Fight For Independence has grown into a major charity event. Often dubbed the Bay Street Brawl, the event has garnered the attention of the city’s news and sporting news outlets. More importantly, the event has been successful in raising over $1.5 million for Nazareth House and the SickKids Foundation.
